Our vision for the BioMMS research infrastructure is to achieve excellence through interdisciplinary research, rooted in the fundamental sciences Biology, Physics, Medi­cine, Pharmacology, on the one hand, and on the other hand, computer and information technologies and present-day electronic device engineering as a basis for innovations. The development of a competitive infrastructure will be achieved by:

  • concentration of research expertise and unique equipment;
  • development of an effective research environment for intensive interaction between science and business;
  • integration of the research and educational processes;
  • expansion of international coop­eration;
  • increase of the Bulgarian researchers’ competitiveness to participate in European and international projects.

In relation to the scientific area of the project this will ensure sustainability in the expertise of the human resources, the technological development, the effectiveness in the communication and collaboration with the private sector, and it will help overcome social and economic obstacles that the scientific and the general community are facing.
The mission of the BioMMS research infrastructure is to enable high quality scientific investigations on biomolecules, biomembranes and biosignals, with the purpose of improving human health and quality of life. That includes:

  • discovery of new molecular mechanisms and interactions;
  • innovations in pharmacology, chemo- and bioinformatics;
  • development of new technologies, services and business products in the areas of translational and personalized medicine;
  • development and optimization of algorithms, methods and instruments for the needs of medical diagnostics and therapy.

Deployment of the developed high-quality scientific products as well as fostering the science–business relation is expected on a national and international level. The BioMMS project will provide attractive working conditions for young and established Bulgarian researchers alike.
